Spotlight - May 2026, Level Up Camp
May 28, 2026
We kicked off our camp season on May 12 with our first Level Up Camp. Designed for more advanced surfers looking to progress their green wave surfing. This five-day camp brings together a small group for hands-on coaching in the water. A highlight of the camp is a video review, helping surfers visually identify habits and accelerate their progression. Marc and Morgan were kind enough to share their experience below:

Why did you decide to join the Level Up Surf Camp?
I'm an experienced surfer, but living in a city with no surfable waves, I struggle to get out regularly enough to improve. I wanted to up my surf game and was looking for instruction.
What was your surfing level/ability before the camp?
I have been surfing for 19 years, but only a few times each year. I am a low-level intermediate surfer.
What skills or improvements did you notice after the camp?
My goal was to get better at riding the face of the wave, and I achieved that. The instructors also pointed out some bad habits that were slowing down my improvement.
What was your favourite part of the experience?
Surfing! The instructors were great lots to learn. The other students were too. Just a group of fun people who want more surfing in their lives.
If you had to sum up the camp in one quote or sentence, what would it be?
If you're stuck at a surfing plateau and you want to get better, if you need some help to improve, if you just want some company out in the water, then you need to Level Up.

Why did you decide to join the Level Up Surf Camp?
I have been trying to learn to surf the last 6 years but have seen little improvement. I decided to attend level up surf camp because I wanted to work in a smaller group with instructors to see if I would be able to progress in my surf journey more quickly.
What was your surfing level/ability before the camp?
I was a beginner surfer before the camp - I was able to consistently stand up in the white wash but just got pummelled whenever I tried to get out into bigger waves.
What skills or improvements did you notice after the camp?
I noticed that I greatly improved in reading the waves and understanding my positioning relative to the impact zone. I also received much more clarity on my body position on the board, which was extremely helpful.
What was your favourite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the experience was learning to surf with our group members (who were awesome) and instructors; feeling encouraged and safe enough to travel into green waves. Honestly, the surf camp was incredibly impactful because I was walking around with this idea that I will never learn to surf and that I'm not that good at learning things any more, and the instructors really helped me put some of that to rest. So grateful.
Morgan also shared some thoughtful feedback on our instructors Ava and Kirsten!
Ava and Kirsten were a phenomenal instructors that complimented each other really well. Ava came across as thoughtful and genuinely very invested in our progress. I think she has a genuine talent as a teacher in that she would often explain things differently than Kirsten or understand the question I was trying to ask and offer an explanation in a different way that made it very easy to understand the concept. I appreciated her visual diagrams and her encouragement/ care for us, as well as her humility in relaying to us her own challenges with learning to surf. She is lovely.
