All our instructors are trained in lifesaving and first aid and adhere to the standards set by BCASI
What if it's my first time surfing?
Embrace the excitement of your first surf session! Feeling nervous is entirely natural, especially for newcomers to the sport. At Surf Sister, we specialize in beginner-friendly programs designed to educate and ensure your safety throughout the experience. Our dedicated instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and keep you in waist-deep waters where waves are gentler, allowing you to build your confidence step by step. Remember, nervousness often turns into exhilaration, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
What do I need to bring to my lesson?
Wear a bathing suit, towel, comfy clothes for after, sunscreen and have some water in your car.
Can I wear glasses during my lesson?
For your safety, we advise against wearing glasses or goggles while surfing, as there is a risk of injury if the board hits them. Opt for contact lenses if possible. If not, attend our safety talk with your glasses and store them safely in our first aid kit while you hit the waves.
What beach do we surf at and how do we get there?
Our surf locations are chosen daily based on the prevailing conditions. You can expect to surf at beautiful spots like Cox Bay, South Chesterman, or North Chesterman, each offering unique surfing experiences.
While we provide gear transportation, you are responsible for getting yourself to and from the beach. Tofino offers various options, including cabs, tiki buses (reserve in advance), and a free shuttle stopping at local beaches (www.tofinobus.com).
Do you teach lessons in the rain?
Ocean lovers know you're going to get wet, rain or shine! Embrace the elements, as rain often means ideal offshore winds for perfect surfing conditions. We only cancel classes in extreme weather situations to ensure your safety. In such cases, we'll gladly accommodate rescheduling or offer a gift certificate.
Can I tip my instructor?
Yes! Tips are appreciated. Instructors can receive tips via e-transfer or cash.
